NAHB Green Building Program
In 2007 the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB)
and the International Code Council (ICC) partnered to form
to establish a much-needed and nationally-recognizable
standard definition of what is meant by "Green Building.“
The result was the nation’s first and only ANSI approved
standard. This ANSI approved standard defines green
building for single and multifamily homes, residential
remodeling projects, and site development projects. It
allows flexibility for regionally-appropriate best green
practices.
New homes can
certify to the
standard at four
different levels:
Bronze, Silver,
Gold, and
Emerald.
The standard incorporates Lot Design, Preparation, and
Development; Resource Efficiency; Energy Efficiency;
Water Efficiency; Indoor Environmental Quality; and
Operation, Maintenance, and Building Owner Education.
Homes built to the standard are between 15% and 60%
more energy-efficient than those built to the IECC 2006.
